योऽत्ति यस्य यथा मांसमुभयोः पश्यतान्तरम्।
एकस्य क्षणिका प्रीतिरन्यः प्राणैर्विमुच्यते॥
हितोपदेशे॥
yo'tti yasya yathā māṁsamubhayoḥ paśyatāntaram|
ekasya kṣaṇikā prītiranyaḥ prāṇairvimucyate||

At least for a moment please think over the difference between the one who eats the flesh of a living being and the animal whose flesh becomes the food. For the one who eats the flesh, it is indeed great and instantaneous pleasure, although such pleasure may be temporary. However, for the victim, the damage is permanent. It is relieved of its life once for all.
യോഽത്തി യസ്യ യഥാ മാംസമുഭയോഃ പശ്യതാന്തരം।
ഏകസ്യ ക്ഷണികാ പ്രീതിരന്യഃ പ്രാണൈര്‍വിമുച്യതേ॥
ഹിതോപദേശേ॥
മാംസം ഭക്ഷിക്കുന്ന വ്യക്തിയുടെയും, ആ മാംസത്തിനായി കശാപ്പു ചെയ്യപ്പെടുന്ന ജീവിയുടെയും അവസ്ഥകള്‍ തമ്മിലുള്ള വ്യത്യാസം ഒരു നിമിഷം ചിന്തിക്കുന്നത് നന്നായിരിക്കും.
മാംസം ഭക്ഷിക്കുന്നവന് ആ തീറ്റ അപ്പോള്‍ തന്നെ ഏറെ സന്തോഷവും തൃപ്തിയും എല്ലാം നല്‍കും. ആ തൃപ്തി തീറ്റ കഴിഞ്ഞു അല്‍പ സമയത്തേയ്ക്ക് മാത്രം ആയിരിക്കാം.
പക്ഷെ കശാപ്പ് ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ട ജീവിക്ക് അതിന്‍റെ ജീവനും സര്‍വസ്വവും ഒരിക്കലും തിരിച്ചു കിട്ടാത്ത വിധം നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടു കഴിഞ്ഞു.
