I was reading about possessiveness and obsession found in some persons.. Over petty things.. Often theY entertain a feeling that their life would be incomplete or even ruined if they lose any part of such possessions..
When I asked myself about being haunted by such feelings, my finding was..
I have such obsession about books..
of whatever form..
whether printed books,
manuscripts or e books..
Even though I could not read many books in my personal library, I would take them out periodically and ensure that the pages are okay, the stitch is in place, the flaps remained well glued and so on.. If someone asks to borrow a book from me , I will find all excuses to deny it.
. Even an old Tinkle Digest purchased thirty years ago.. I cannot part with without regret..
I have cursed more people for harming of causing damage to my books, more than anything else.
It may be a character disorder.. but I think I know the reason... .
As a boy I had to struggle hard to get hold of any sort of books. I have walked lots of miles to and fro from libraries carrying heavy volumes in hot sun.. Waited for hours in so many places to get hold of a boOften, abandoning all decency, I have silently stared over the shoulders of others to read a few pages of a book they reading. But I do not regret about that obsessionI may not be able to answer honestly .. if someone asks.. what do I prefer..God or Books..?""
