धनमपि परदत्तं दुःखमौचित्यभाजां भवति हृदि तदेवानन्दकारीतरेषाम्।
मलयजजलबिन्धुर् बाधते नेत्रमन्तर्जनयति च स एवाह्लादमन्यत्र गात्रे॥
सुभाषितसुधारत्नभाण्डागारे॥
dhanamapi paradattaṁ duḥkhamaucityabhājāṁ bhavati hṛdi tadevānandakārītareṣām|
malayajajalabindhur bādhate netramantarjanayati ca sa evāhlādamanyatra gātre||
subhāṣitasudhāratnabhāṇḍāgāre||
A person with sense of propriety and pride is sad and uneasy when he has to take money from someone else. However for some others, begging, borrowing or stealing money is the happiest things to do. The liquid mixture of sandal causes sore to the eye, but the same paste provides extreme happiness for the other parts of the body.
ധനമപി പരദത്തം ദുഃഖമൌചിത്യഭാജാം ഭവതി ഹൃദി തദേവാനന്ദകാരീതരേഷാം।
മലയജജലബിന്ധുര്‍ ബാധതേ നേത്രമന്തര്‍ജനയതി ച സ ഏവാഹ്ളാദമന്യത്ര ഗാത്രേ॥
സുഭാഷിതസുധാരത്നഭാണ്ഡാഗാരേ॥
ആത്മാഭിമാനവും ഔചിത്യബോധവും ഉള്ള ഒരു വ്യക്തി മറ്റുള്ളവരില്‍ നിന്ന് ധനമോ സഹായമോ സ്വീകരിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ ദുഃഖിതനും അസ്വസ്ഥനും ആയിത്തീരുന്നു. പക്ഷെ മറ്റു ചിലര്‍ക്ക് ആരില്‍ നിന്നെങ്കിലും യാചിച്ചോ കടം വാങ്ങിയോ മോഷ്ടിച്ചോ ഏതു വിധത്തിലായാലും പണവും വിലപിടിപ്പുള്ള മറ്റു വസ്തുക്കളും നേടിയെടുക്കുക എന്നത് ഏറെ സന്തോഷം നല്‍കുന്ന കാര്യം ആയിരിക്കും. നോക്കൂ, ചന്ദനം ജലത്തില്‍ കുഴച്ചെടുത്ത കൂട്ട് ഒരാളുടെ കണ്ണില്‍ പുരട്ടിയാല്‍ കണ്ണു നീറ്റലെടുക്കും. പക്ഷെ അതെ ചന്ദനക്കൂട്ട്‌ ശരീരത്തിലെ മറ്റു ഭാഗങ്ങളില്‍ പൂശിയാല്‍ അത് ഒരാള്‍ക്ക് ഏറെ കുളിര്‍മ്മയും ആനന്ദവും കൊടുക്കുന്നു.
